Recipe of the Day…. Crumpets.

So, I am endeavoring on making a decent crumpet. Which should be interesting, since, I’ve never had a crumpet. I have nothing to compare it to, no model to set it up against. I’m off to the grocery store for ingredients. I’ve been reading blogs all around the interwebs looking for ideas and the general recipe for one. I’m feeling like it a pancake-y sort of a thing.  I’ll make this a several part blog on the “Crumpet: A Quest”  and then we’ll see what we get.

Friday Night-  Attempt Number 1 –  So they came out…Meh. Not really what I was looking for, or what I think I’m looking for. No real nooks and crannies. Mostly doughy and heavy. They really weren’t what the blog described. I think I filled the rings to much. And someone had mentioned that they had put the soda in right before cooking. I think I’ll try that with the next recipe. We’ll see!  This is the best part of experimenting, figuring out what works and what doesn’t. So these are mine:

Ok so Crumpet fest-tober is on hold for awesome weather. Yard work must be done, so I will continue this little exploration of crumpetness on Tuesday.

Crupmet Update:

I might have found the one. This recipe has a lot more air and you add the baking soda at the end, after you have let the yeast do its work. Lots of bubbles everywhere.  Here is the new picture. (if your english, please let me know if these look better) The first picture is as it went into the pan and the second is when it is getting ready to be turned. They seem to work out really well. They do tend to be a little bit greasy. But after you toast them, and add some butter, you don’t seem to notice the greasiness.  I have to apologize. I completely forgot to take a picture of them when they were all finished. But they look better!

Yeah so this wedding thing is coming up.

Yes I am using this as an excuse as to why I haven’t blogged in ages. T-19 days. Stress levels are starting to reach maximum proportions. I might stroke out. I can actually hear the wedding bells ringing. Good lord in heaven above, please preserve me!

I will be back, I don’t know when, But I will be back!

T- 9 Days……..

We have had a torrid love affair, since those first days, 13 years ago. Late nights in bed, waiting for hours just to get my hands on him.  Turning him over and over in my hands.  Crying, laughing, all emotions were felt, through him, and with him.

I’m going to miss that little boy wizard.

Get your mind out of the gutter.

ok. I have  a secret passion, well I have lots of secret passions, but this one’s final chapter (unless someone wants to write some more) is coming to a close.  It’s about a little boy and a scar and some wizards and lots of other stuff too. Harry Potter is being released next Friday night. Seven books and 8 movies, tons and loads and buckets of stuff to go along with it all.

I started reading the books to some kids that I was babysitting.  I thought that YA Fiction had come along way if this was the kind of books that were out now. Well little did I know that there weren’t really any books like that out.  I kept the fact that I was a HP-Fanatic under-wraps, well I tried to at least. It would have messed with my street-cred in college. I figured I was the only 20ish gal out there reading, kids books.

Then I went to my first B&N Midnight Release party. I had found ‘my people’.  But its all done. The story closes. Only one more midnight showing. One last time I can wear my HP tee shirt in public with out being completely embarrassed.

One last time…

I can’t wait  !!

New Post Coming….. After dinner.

So, The next blog is coming after dinner. I think that I’m making Turkish food for dinner. So I want to save the blog for after dinner.

A DSLR, Lots of Orders, Cataract Surgery

So we borrowed a DSLR  from the New Husbands (NH)  Dad.  I just want to say I’m in love. Unequivocally In LOVE! I seriously took 100 pictures yesterday, of everything that I could get my view finder on. I’ll put some up on the blog.  It is awesome, and seriously my dog never looked so good, even in really life.  I got some great shots of my seeds coming up and I tried to take some pictures of the Apple Cake. I didn’t like any of them. I really think I have to cut into the cake and then take a picture.  Will do that today.

It was a good weekend for orders! Baked yesterday and today, will mail out tomorrow.

Mom goes in for cataract surgery tomorrow. I can’t say that I’m not nervous, but after the aortic aneurysm two years ago. This is cake.  None the less all prayers are appreciated.  Well to upload pictures and pack up the apple cakes to mail.

Cheers!

A Busy Baking Day

So I’ve definitely been busy this afternoon. I’ve had requests and it was time full-fill them. The house smells warm and spicy. YUM! I had a friends request for sugar-free treats. They have a wonderful toddler and they are looking to be healthy. Like we all should be.  Well at least 2 out of three ain’t bad. The husband requested Creme de Menthe Brownies.  That is a man after my own heart.  So to the kitchen I must go.  I read up on ‘natural sweeteners’  and frankly, I’m really not that sure about them.  Now mind you I have 2 Splenda in my coffee every morning, but I really don’t know if I would give it to my toddler.  Hell my insides are chemical-ized with delicious diet Pepsi. But they still have a fighting chance.

I found a recipe for Banana Oat cookies, made with molasses. Warm and spicy, not to sweet, almost gingerbread-y. I think that they will be perfect for a handsome young man.  I’ll continue to work on recipes as no one can live on banana oat cookies alone. So on to dads recipe, brownie try number one left something to be desired.  First I undercooked them, but they just left something to be desired.   I would even say too greasy. Still they were a brownie, but not the best I’ve ever had.  I’m striving for the best I’ve ever had. SO they are cooling on the counter and the mint frosting is warming, waiting to be slathered.  The Andes Candies are ready to be sprinkled on top.

So on a good business note, I might have found a place to bake. That means that I am one step closer to opening the business for real. A real nice lady owns a co-op kitchen. I’m going tomorrow to see the kitchen and see if it will work. Which I’m really, really hoping that it will.  Cause really I called most every church in Rensselaer County to see if they would let me bake in their kitchen.  No bites.  So I might be putting all my eggs in one basket, but I have to go with what could be my only option.

Curried Cauliflower for dinner!

So for dinner this evening I made Summer Tomato’s  DELICIOUS Curried Cauliflower Soo tasty! I think I need to find something to feed the Husband, as I can’t imagine that he will want to eat cauliflower, much less curried cauliflower.

Sugar-free Products

Thanks to my follower for requesting sugar free products.  So I embark upon a fact finding mission to see what I can use in place of sugar.  Which, seriously, is good for all of us. The less crap (sugar included) we put in out bodies, the better.  Still there’s nothing wrong with a Micky D’s Cheeseburger, once in a while!

Wholesomeness…..Here I come!
